Start and stop the timer

Where the timer lives, what happens when you start a second one, and how resuming works.

One timer runs at a time across your whole account: on the desk, in the Chrome extension and on any other browser you are signed in on. Starting a new one stops the one that was running and keeps its time.

Start it

  • Click the time in the menu bar at the top of the desk. Its panel lists the week's work: press play on a row to pick it up again, or start something new from the same panel.
  • In the Timesheet, press Add time, choose the project, write what you are working on, and leave the duration empty. An empty duration starts the clock.
  • Press play on any entry in the Timesheet (see below).
  • From any tab in Chrome, use the extension.

The timer needs an hourly project to count against. Fixed-price projects are billed by amount, so they do not appear in the timer's list. If you have no projects yet, the desk asks you to make one first.

Stop it

Press stop on the timer widget, in the menu bar's timer panel or in the extension. The minutes are added to the entry, which stays under its project as unbilled time until you invoice it.

Resume an entry

Every entry in the Timesheet has a play button.

  • On an entry from today, play carries on with that same entry.
  • On an entry from another day, play starts a new entry today with the same description and the same billable setting. Yesterday's entry stays on yesterday.
Closing the tab does not stop itThe timer belongs to your account, so it keeps counting after you close the browser. Open the desk again and it is still running.
