A FreshBooks alternative with a free plan
FreshBooks is full accounting software with invoicing at its heart, from $23 a month plus $11 for each extra team member. Involets does the invoicing and time tracking for free, and $6 a month covers a company of up to 30. Here is how they compare, including the many things FreshBooks does that Involets does not.

Where FreshBooks is ahead
Getting paid from the invoice
FreshBooks emails the invoice, sends reminders and takes card and bank payments from it. Involets makes the PDF; you send it from your own email and mark it paid when the money arrives.
Accounting
FreshBooks does double-entry accounting, expenses with receipts, mileage, profit and loss and tax reports, and has an accountant view. Involets is not accounting software: it tracks time and makes invoices.
Estimates, proposals and phone apps
FreshBooks sends estimates and proposals that become invoices, and has iPhone and Android apps. Involets has neither, though its desk works in a phone’s browser.
Where Involets is different
Free for one person, with no client limit
FreshBooks has no free plan, and its Lite plan bills up to 5 clients. Personal in Involets is free, with no limit on clients, projects or invoices.
One price for a whole company
Five people on FreshBooks Lite pay $67 a month; on Involets they pay $6. The people you invite to an Involets company join free.
Time tracking first
Involets starts from the timer: a Chrome extension, a Mac menu bar app, a timesheet by day, week and month, and reports with your effective hourly rate.
Choose FreshBooks if you want invoicing, payments, expenses and accounting in one paid product, with an accountant working in it too. Choose Involets if you mainly bill your time and want that free, or one small price for a company.
Involets and FreshBooks: what people ask
Is Involets a good FreshBooks alternative?
If what you need is time tracking and invoices made from it, yes, and it is free for one person. If you rely on FreshBooks for payments, expenses or accounting, Involets does not replace those.
Does Involets have a free plan, unlike FreshBooks?
Yes. Personal is free with every feature, unlimited clients, projects and invoices, and no card.
Can I move my clients from FreshBooks?
There is no importer. Add your current clients and projects in Involets and keep FreshBooks’ export as the record of past invoices.
Does Involets do accounting like FreshBooks?
No. It tracks time, makes invoices and reports what you billed and earned per hour. Keep your accounting in a separate tool, or with your accountant.
